ISO 3834-1:2005 Welding Certification provides criteria to be taken into account for the selection of the appropriate level of quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials, among the three levels specified in ISO 3834-2:2005 ISO 3834-3:2005 and ISO 3834-4:2005. It applies to manufacturing, both in workshops and at field installation sites.

ISO 3834-1:2005 does not specify requirements for a total quality management system. However, quality management system elements where their inclusion will complement ISO 3834 are defined. Welding processes are used in various industries. In Engineering vehicle manufacturing, Railway Coach manufacturing, Ship manufacturing , agricultural equipment, pressure vessels , in construction steel structures, bridges and partly in other industries metallurgy, energy, manufacturing .The quality of the welding processes cannot be easily verified, therefore, they are considered as special processes, as stated by ISO 9001. A series of standards ISO 3834 does not replace ISO 9001, but it is a tool to use for the welding process. Emphasis is placed on the qualifications of the staff, equipment used, procedures and records of welding.
